Angus Wright wins U13B National XC Championship on a big weekend for Team East Lothian

Recognised as one of the newest athletics clubs in Scotland, the Team East Lothian squad entered, the Lindsays Scottish National Cross Country Championships in Callander Park, Falkirk on Saturday, with athletes ready to make a mark.  And they definitely delivered on that intention.

First up in the U13 Girls race Bridget Harley finished just outside the medals in fifth place, with Zoe MacDonald, Jessica Bullen and Rudie Shearer all making strong runs for the line too.

Then it was the event of the day for Team East Lothian as Angus Wright ran a mature race, sticking with the pack well into the race before making a move to break away, holding a gap to the line that the others just couldn’t close, and lifting the trophy as U13 Boys National XC Champion.  And following that, good placing from Corry Campbell, Colin Reilly, Aidan Page and Jack Renton completed a team effort that provided a result in the team competition for the first time, as the club begins to build a breadth of talent.

In the U15 category, Marissa Kelly, and Flora Henry ran for the girls and Robbie Anderson ran for the boys.  All started well but unfortunately Flora had to pull up with an injury concern and that left Marissa and Robbie to complete solid runs in their respective events and keep Team East Lothian in the picture.

And then in the U17W category, Cera Gemmell ran a strong race to put a Team East Lothian vest on the podium again by coming through the line in second place.  With Esme Callendar finishing high up the field in 26th place, the team continued to deliver.

Finally, in the U17M race, Fraser Kelly, Cameron Bullen and Joe Donnelly competed well with Fraser finishing in 24th, Cameron in 43rd and Joe in 49th to complete a successful Cross Country Championships for Team East Lothian.

With Team East Lothian currently dominating the Borders Cross Country Series and Fraser Kelly just one race win away from completing a clean sweep of wins, next weekend could be another exciting one!
