The scenic John Muir Country Park will host the 2018 Team East Lothian Open Cross Country, which incorporates the East Lothian Championships, on Saturday 27 January 2018 with the first race scheduled for 10am. (Note – this is an earlier time than last year!)
Online entries are now live, with entries on the day also being taken. The event is held under UK Athletics rules and is a Scottish Athletics permitted event.
Registration will open at 9am in John Muir Country Park by the race start area and will close 20 minutes before each race.
The event will include four races:
10.00 am – U9 age group (1.4 miles)
10.15 am – U11 age group (1.4 miles)
10.45 am – U13, U15 & U17 age groups (2.75 miles)
11.30 am – U20, Senior and Veterans (4.8miles)
U9/U11 – £2
U13/U15/U17 – £3 for Scottish Athletics members, £5 for non SA members
U20/Adults – £6 for Scottish Athletics members, £8 for non SA members
On the day entries will be £2 extra (except for U9/U11)
Cross Country Age Groups Winter 2017-18
U9: aged 7 or 8 on 31st August 2017
U11: aged 9 or 10 on 31st August 2017
U13: aged 11 or 12 on 31st August 2017
U15: aged 13 or 14 on 31st August 2017
U17: aged 15 or 16 on 31st August 2017
U20: aged 17, 18, 19 on 31st August 2017
Senior: aged 20 or over on 31st August 2017
Registration & Declarations
All athletes who have registered online must declare their intention to compete and collect their bib number at the registration desk at least 20 minutes before their scheduled race time.
Please see attached the map for the cross country course. Please note that runners will not have priority over walkers or dog walkers in the country park. We do not recommend running spikes on the course.
Car Parking is available in the public car park at Linkfield car park (£2 parking charge). Please follow the directions of the car park steward on the day.
Public toilets are available near the race start area, at the edge of the Linkfield car park.
The East Links cafe which is only a short walk from John Muir Park is open to the public to purchase hot and cold refreshments and snacks.
Prizes will be awarded to the first male and female athlete in each race in the U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, Senior/ Vets age groups. Awards will be presented shortly after the conclusion of each race. Medals will be awarded to the first 3 athletes in each age group.
East Lothian Championships
All athletes who are either an East Lothian athletics club member or are East Lothian resident will be included in the East Lothian Championships. Medals will be awarded to the first East Lothian athlete in each age group category.
How to Get to John Muir Country Park
By bicycle / car
Follow the A1. At the Thistly Cross Roundabout, take the turning towards Dunbar/East Linton/North Berwick. Arriving soon after at a second roundabout, turn right (along the A1087, signposted Dunbar). After one kilometre, turn left and follow the signs into Linkfield car park which is clearly signposted.
ScotRail services operate to Dunbar from both Edinburgh and from the south. Virgin trains also run services between the capital and Dunbar. From Dunbar station it is 2.5 miles from the railway station to John Muir Country Park.
East Coast buses operate between Edinburgh and Dunbar, ask the driver to drop you off near to John Muir Country Park.
