TEL multi-eventer, Alister Mackay had a hugely successful indoor heptathlon competition at the English Senior Combined Events championships in Sheffield on the 6th and 7th January. Finishing with 5 individual event PBs over the 2 days Alister finished in 7th place with another overall heptathlon PB of 4962 points.
The Senior Men’s Indoor Heptathlon is run over two days and the first day starts with a 60m sprint, then long jump, followed by shot put and high jump. The second day starts with 60m hurdles, then pole vault and finishes with a 1000m run.
Day 1 saw PBs in the 60m sprint with 7.36s, in Shot Put with a throw of 12.38m and in High Jump with 1.87m. On day 2, he continued the excellent performances with more PBs in the Pole Vault with a 4.20m jump and in the final event of 1000m with 2:50.2.
His coach, TEL’s Jamie Bowie says, “It was a great weekend from Alister and it’s fantastic seeing his confidence and performances grow from strength to strength. Edging so close to that 5,000 points mark with a lifetime best and 5 event PBs shows the hard work and training consistency that Alistair has put in over the winter.”
