Team East Lothian Awards Night Celebrates A Successful Year

It’s been a busy year for Team East Lothian.  Our amazing athletes have represented and delivered results at county, regional, national and international levels.  We’ve had individual and team successes at cross country, road racing, and indoor and outdoor track and field.  Purple has become a well recognised colour!

So it was fantastic to hold an awards night on Tuesday 5th December to celebrate success and hard work.  Huge congratulations to the following athletes who were awarded as below:

ELADG – Boys Athlete Award Adam Hoole
ELADG – Girls Athlete Award Cera Gemmell
The Jamie Bowie Boys PB Award Lewis Goodall
The Jamie Bowie Girls PB Award Grace Brennan
Eve Coaches – Award for Athletic Endeavour – Development Squad – Boys Joe Donnelly
Eve Coaches – Award for Athletic Endeavour – Development Squad – Girls Joanne Welch
Scottish Building Society – Award for Athletic Endeavour – Potentials Squad – Boys Max Evans
Scottish Building Society – Award for Athletic Endeavour – Potentials Squad – Girls Evie Welsh

In addition to these specific awards to highlight exceptional performance, commitment and endeavour, the night was an opportunity to announce the results and present medals and trophies for the East Lothian Championships.  These are held over the East Lothian Open Summer Series events.

A huge amount of work has been applied towards delivering success and furthering development of Team East Lothian this year by all the athletes, coaches, event organisers, team managers, volunteers and committees.

Just to highlight some of the areas where Team East Lothian has progressed this year:

Our squads have increased in size and our coaches have delivered not only to our potentials and development squads, but to the whole community.

Through our primary school level run-jump-throws programme we’ve engaged with hundreds of future athletes, while the pilot for our ‘train like an athlete’ programme has proven a path to engage with adult runners.

The coaching team itself has expanded as we’ve developed new coaches and new skills and the club is now supporting a new athletics development officer for the county.

We’ve successfully renewed existing partnerships with among others, East Lothian Council, Enjoy Leisure and the Scottish Building Society, and we’ve engaged with new supporters, 4J Studios in particular.

We’ve aimed to educate and inform through seminars and talks and we’ve engaged with the whole athletics community through website, Facebook and Twitter.

We hosted a series of successful competitive events, with great success at both the East Lothian Open XC last winter, and the Meadowmill Open Series track and field events through the summer.

With so much progress in 2017, it’s going to be great to see just how far Team East Lothian can go in 2018.
