After months of no spectators, an audience was permitted to attend the Glasgow Athletics Association Milers meet at Scotstoun track in Glasgow on Friday evening. This is a British Milers Club (BMC) regional event, and is part of an extensive series of fixtures targeted at middle distance runners.
The BMC is the premier middle distance athletic club in the UK, with its aim being to improve the world standing of UK Middle Distance Running, and is sponsored by Saucony. Athletes need to achieve a qualifying time to join the club, which provides an inspiration for many.
In perfect running conditions, all athletes from East Lothian achieved PBs in their respective heats.
From Team East Lothian, Aidan Page, U17 won his heat in the 1500m in a well-paced run and bettered his PB to 4:18.01 for the distance, whilst Maja Thomson, U17 also improved on her PB to set a new best of 4:42.99. The performances from Aidan and Maja were both better than the qualifying times set by the BMC, which is a great achievement for the under 17 athletes. Robbie Anderson had a great run over the 5000m and also clocked a PB of 16:23.40.
