Team East Lothian Dunbar Facility
Team East Lothian (TEL) has put in place a temporary solution to a facilities issue that had become a problem for their athletes in recent months. Strength and conditioning is a really important element of any young athletes’ development, and investment in new equipment and a fantastic space to train has been well received by TEL athletes, coaches and the wider community.
With incredible support from existing sponsors 4J Studios, Team East Lothian trustees planned, developed and brought to life a superb temporary facility located just next to the Hallhill Sports Centre, just a stone’s throw from Dunbar Primary, Lochend Campus.
The facility has been a welcome addition to the sports facilities at Hallhill. The TEL strength and conditioning classes have been fully booked, and local school children have enjoyed the Run, Jump, Throw (RJT) classes and Easter camp that have been held at the new venue. After such a positive response to the Easter Camp, further camps are planned for the summer – with a view to extending the age group to include secondary, as well as primary children.
The two shipping containers are home to the full range of equipment needed for a professional strength and conditioning facility.
The space, available for hire by other local sports groups and fitness instructors, is fitted out with an extensive weight-lifting range, specialised equipment for plyometrics and flexibility, as well as aerobic equipment including professional spec. rowing machines, exercise bikes and ski machines. And between the shipping containers there is a covered 120 sq meter, weatherproof matted area that could be used by instructors for classes such as yoga and pilates.
Paddy Burns, CEO at 4J Studios says “I was delighted to work with Team East Lothian to bring this much needed facility to Dunbar. The strength and conditioning is an essential part of an athlete’s pathway, and it’s very encouraging to see the space also being utilised by local schoolchildren for fitness classes.
We would be more than happy to have other local groups make use of the space and equipment when it isn’t in use by the TEL athletes. Please get in touch (by email to hallhill@teameastlothian.org.uk) if you would like to use the facility”.
