East Districts & Open Championships 11-12 May ’24

A great turnout from TEL athletes saw medals and PBs galore at the East Districts Champs at Grangemouth. In the U13 boys Tom Ibbs was again in the medals with a gold and big pb in the 1500m in 4.41.19 and another pb of 1.32m to win bronze in the high jump.

In the U15s, Ben Anderson was also in great form winning the long jump with a huge 5.75m though slightly above the legal wind limit. He also won gold in the 300m with a pb of 39.43s and bronze in the 100m in which he also obtained another pb of 12.23 in qualifying.

Imogen Turner ran a fantastic 1500m in 4.47.41 to win bronze in a massive 11s pb. Meanwhile all the other TEL U15 athletes obtained PBs in some or all of their respective events. Morven Kenny was 5th in a PB of 45.17s in the 300m, 6th in the long jump with 4.20m and 7th in the 75mH in a PB of 13.69s. Ava Rose Curtis was 7th in the 800m with a 5s PB of 2.29.17, whilst Frank Orsi had two PBs of 28.16s in the 200m and 24.34m to gain 4th place in the javelin and Heidi Nicholson came 8th in the 200m, obtaining a PB in the heats of 29.31s.

In the U17s Aoife Swan-Ashe ran a tremendous 300m in 42.81s to gain a silver medal,  Jake Page ran a 5s PB to come 7th in the 800m in 2.13.32, whilst Charlie Copp and Joe Smith both ran in the 1500m coming 6th in 4.22.84 and 8th in a 9s PB of 4.27.46 respectively.

There was more success for our older athletes with Laura Buchan winning the triple jump in a new PB, and first event over 11m, of 11.26m. In the long jump Laura was 3rd overall and first senior with 5.20m closely followed by Kerry Morris in 4th with 5.13m. In the men’s events Alister Mackay won the pole vault with 4.15m and the 110mH in a pb of 16.00s. Jamie Smith had to travel to Kilmarnock for the 800m, but the trip was made worthwhile with a 2s PB of 1.59.41 to land 4th overall and 3rd U20.

Congratulations to everyone for their efforts, showing that the hours spent working with our many dedicated coaches continue to produce fine results.
