A busy weekend at the Emirates on 1st and 2nd February saw athletes competing both for TEL and their universities.
The Scottish Universities Championships on Saturday showcased many of the talented athletes studying in Scotland and our TEL athletes came away with a number of great performances including podium finishes.
Best of these came from Zak Fearn (Napier) who equalled his PB of 3.60m to win the men’s pole vault, Maja Thomson (Edinburgh) who came first in the women’s 800m in 2.27.93 and Oscar Hennessy Leach (Edinburgh) who won the men’s 60m hurdles in a PB of 8.77s.
Other great podium performances came from Laura Buchan (Edinburgh) who came second in the triple jump in 10.92m and Aidan Page (Glasgow) who missed out on top spot in the men’s 1500m by 0.02s in 4.06.78. Combined eventer Alister Mackay (Strathclyde) was competing in the men’s shotput and also came second with 12.46m.
Meanwhile Jamie Smith (Edinburgh) came through his heat to achieve a great third place in the men’s 800m final in 1.56.42 just outside his PB.
Erin Hall (Stirling) jumped just short of her PB to finish 11th in the women’s long jump in 4.74m and she was joined by Laura 6th with 5.16m and Kerry Morris, competing as a guest, who jumped 4.61m as well as 9.68m in the triple jump. To complete a busy day for Laura, she also entered the women’s 60m, getting through the heats in 8.60s but just failing to make the final from her semi in 8.61s.

On Sunday, the EAP International came to Glasgow, giving a chance for young Scottish athletes to compete with overseas stars and gain valuable experience in front of a crowd of over a thousand. Representing TEL were Fraser Lupton in the men’s 1500m who came 7th in 4.05.91 and Adam Hoole who came fourth in the men’s 60m hurdles in 8.31s. No PBs for either, but valuable experience nonetheless.
Well done to all our TEL athletes!
