Scottish Schools Championships – 5 – 6 February 2025

The Emirates in Glasgow was the place to be on the 5th and 6th February as some of the nation’s best U15 to U20 athletes competed in the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships. Wearing school colours, yet again TEL athletes were amongst the medals, along with an assortment of other great performances and personal bests achieved.

Top result must go to Imogen Turner (North Berwick HS) who won the U15 girls 1500m in a  fantastic PB time of 4.43.32, and taking 14s off her qualifying time from the earlier heat.

After qualifying with 2.17.96, Frank Orsi (Preston Lodge HS) knocked over 6s off his PB in the U15 boys 800m final to claim a brilliant third place with 2.11.84. He was also competing in the SP, achieving 7th place with 8.23m

Ava Curtis (Ross HS) just missed out on the medals in the U15 girls 800m. After qualifying for the final with a PB of 2.28.14 she then ran 2.28.32 to finish fourth, under 3s behind the bronze medal athlete.

Joe Smith (Portobello HS) cruised through his heat to reach the U17 men’s 1500m final where he ran a PB of 4.15.69 for a very creditable 6th place. Also with two 6th places was Ben Anderson (Ross HS) who had a busy couple of days competing in three events. He reduced his PB by over 0.7s to come 6th in the men’s U17 60m with 7.59s, having come through a heat and semi final. He was also 6th in the men’s U17 LJ with a PB of 5.77m, whilst he reached the semi finals of the 200m with another PB of 24.55s, which was not quite fast enough to reach the final.

Tom Ibbs (Musselburgh GS) was another athlete doubling up, running a great PB of 4.33.39 to come 7th in the U15 boys 1500m final. He also came 9th in the HJ equalling his PB of 1.45m.

Heidi Nicholson (Portobello HS) was third in her heat of the U17 women’s 300m in 47.07s, just outside her PB but sadly not quite fast enough to progress to the semi finals.
