Borders Cross Country Series 2024/2025

The Borders Cross Country Series 2024/2025 once again delivered a thrilling competition across various venues, showcasing some of the best endurance talent in the region. This season, Team East Lothian athletes made a strong impact, demonstrating resilience, determination, and excellent performances across all age groups.

Series Overview

The series comprised several races held across different locations in the Scottish Borders and East Lothian. Athletes competed in a range of conditions, from muddy and wet courses to dry and fast trails, testing their versatility and endurance. The competition attracted runners of all levels, from seasoned cross-country specialists to developing young athletes gaining valuable race experience.

Team East Lothian Highlights

Junior Athletes

Team East Lothian’s junior athletes performed exceptionally well throughout the series, consistently securing podium finishes and strong placements. Standout performances included:

U11 Girls & Boys: Several strong individual results, with multiple top-10 finishes.

U13 & U15 Categories: Team East Lothian athletes showcased excellent pack running, securing high cumulative points for the team standings.

U17 & U20: Outstanding endurance and tactical racing saw several athletes competing at the sharp end of their respective races, demonstrating their development as strong contenders in Scottish cross-country running.

Key Performances & Results

The final standings saw several Team East Lothian athletes finishing in strong overall positions, contributing to the club’s reputation as a force in Scottish cross country.

Some key individual and team highlights included:

Ava-Rose Curtis finished 8th in the junior women overall standings, and 2nd in the 12-13 year olds,  achieving podium finishes in multiple rounds.  Abi Campbell was 5th and Kate Douglas 10th in the same age category. 

Tom Ibbs won the junior boys event outright and also secured the 12-13 year old series win with three 1st places and a 2nd place at the fast and flat Dunbar event.

Leo Grilli finished 8th in the junior boys overall (3rd in the 14-15 year old age category), Fergus Mackenzie 13th overall,  Adam Connolly 15th overall and Rory Perkins 21st overall.  Fergus also won the 10-11 year age category outright with Adam 2nd.

There were also individual race wins for Imogen Turner and Lachlan Ballie across the series.

There were fantastic performances across the series, showcasing the effectiveness of dedicated training and preparation.

The Borders Cross Country Series 2024/2025 was a highly successful campaign for Team East Lothian, reflecting the hard work and commitment of both athletes and coaches. With a solid foundation from this series, focus shifted to upcoming championships and national-level events, where the athletes built on their progress and continue representing East Lothian with pride.
