Thanks to Edinburgh Athletics Club for hosting their Indoor Open Graded at Meadowbank on Sunday 26 February. Nearly 200 competitors took part in 26 events spanning 60m sprint, 60m hurdles, long jump and shot putt, with a number of Team East Lothian athletes and many more from our local feeder clubs, in particular younger members from Musselburgh & District.
On the track, Alistair Loudon put in an excellent performance in the 60m with a time of 7.7s, which for U17 Men was very closely behind EAC’s Max Leslie and Berachiah Ajala who recorded 7.6s (unfortunately the electronic timer failed, so all results were hand times). Laura Buchan competed in the sprint and the hurdles, with her best sprint time of 8.9s just inside her recent PB from the SAIL3 match, and was consistent in hurdles recording two times both of 10.9s, just outside her SAIL3 PB. Fergus Taylor got close to his own PBs in 60m sprint and long jump, taking 5th place in the latter for U15 Boys.
Shot put is somewhat constrained in the indoor arena, with a limit of about 11m possible directly towards the end wall and slightly more towards the sides. Connor Currie got close to the wall with a distance of 10.53m, first ranked for his age and second overall in the Men’s 15-40 event (5kg). Joanne Welch added the “shuffle” to her own shot technique and was pleased to add 20cm to her PB with 7.43m, ranked fourth in U15 Girls (3kg), while her younger brother Michael (competing for Haddington) added well over a metre to his own PB with 7.29m, and came first in U11 Boys (2kg) by some margin.
