It’s been a busy week on the schools front. Last Friday and Saturday saw around 24 athletes with East Lothian Schools connections in action at the Scottish Schools Athletics Championships at Grangemouth. Ten athletes won podium places; Four Gold, three silver and three bronze medals, and a high percentage reaching the finals of their events. Events are graded from D for under 14; C for over 14; B for under 16 and A for over 16.
And then on Thursday it was the East Lothian High Schools Athletics Championships with Team East Lothian athletes taking many of the wins across the different events. The competition overall was won by the team from North Berwick High School team with Preston Lodge High School in second place.
Looking at the details of the Scottish Schools results from last weekend; Adam Hoole (MGS) won the 80m Hurdles in 12s; Emma Johnson (GW) won the D 1500m in 4m42.93s; Max Leslie (MGS) won the B 400m in 50.63s; Cameron Steven (DGS) won the A 800m in 1m52.63s; .
Silver medals were won by Grace Brennan (GW) in the 75mHurdles in 12.13s; Cera Gemmell (NBHS) in the 3k event in 10m07.78s; Eloise Gray (DG) in the C 200mt in 25.9s. She also won through to the final of the 100m and came 5th.
Bronze medals went to Rosa Gally (PHS) in the 400m in 1:00:07; Charlie Hamilton (DG) in the 400mt Hurdles in 62.89s; Kate Johnstone (PHS) in the 100m in 12.46s.
The following athletes were finalist in their events: Esme Callander (NBHS) 1500m; Fiona Cunningham (KA) B shot put; Connor Currie (PL) in the Discus; Bridget Harley (NBH) 1500m; Adam Hoole (MGS) in the Javelin; Fraser Kelly (DG) 3000m; Grace Brennan (GW) Joanne Welch (PL), Laura Buchan (MGS) in the Long Jump.
