It was a busy weekend for Team East Lothian athletes with the winter cross-country season in full flow. As the Borders Cross County Series made its only visit to the county for its second event of the year, 134 juniors took to the Dunbar course on Sunday. In beautiful conditions, Angus Wright (12-13) was the first junior East Lothian runner home and first in his age group with a time of 13:15.
Close on his heels, Joe Donnelly (16-17) was third overall and first in his age group with a time of 13:18. Teammates Cameron Bullen (16-17) and Corey Campbell (12-13) finished strong in the top ten with 2ndand 4thplaces respectively in their age categories. Great performances from Angus Chandler 3rd 14-15, Innes Wright 2nd 10-11, Robbie Anderson 5th 14-15 and Aidan Page 7th 12-13 all finishing in the top 20 with Oliver Coghlan 21st 10-11. Sam Renton (HRC) was first 8-9 to finish in 15:40.
Flora Henry (14-15) matched her performance at Lauder with 1st junior female over the line in a time of 14:56. Cerys Wright (HRC) was 1st 8-9 in 16:51, Sadie Slifer 2nd 10-11, Olivia Robbins 3rd 12-13 with Jessica Bullen 6th 12-13.
A total of 214 adults took to the senior cross-country course at Dunbar with Fraser Kelly (TEL) 14thoverall and first junior man.
This weekend Cera Gemmell (U17) travels to Sefton Park Liverpool for the next British Athletics Cross Challenge Series. It is a British selection race for the European Cross Country Championships so there should be a high turnout. East Lothian club squads will also travel to the East District Cross Country League in Broxburn.
