Maria Lyle had a fantastic two days of competition at the England Athletics Senior and Disability Championships in Bedford at the weekend. The championship is about the opportunity it provides to the athletes with a home Commonwealth Games on the horizon. As well as the Commonwealth Games of course, all eyes in the sporting world are on the much anticipated Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Lyle ran her season’s bests in both the 100m (14:31) and the 200m (29:81), which resulted in the title ‘Champion of England’ for both distances. With absolute consistent performance, Lyle ran the 100m heat in 14:31 and then ran precisely that time again in the final. The 200m was a straight final. The races were mixed classes, with the winner being decided based on a points scale. The result…gold for Lyle in both the 100m and 200m. Perfect timing in the preparation for the Paralympics, which start on 24 August.
Lyle has one more local event with her club at the Team East Lothian Open Graded on 7 August before she heads out to Tokyo. Lyle is competing in the T35 100 and 200 metres, following two bronze medals in Brazil five years ago.
