Adam Hoole from Team East Lothian, represented Scotland, at the U20 International event held at Manchester Regional Arena on 18 August. With an impressive final jump of 6.97metres, Hoole finished ahead of Ryan Edwards, from Wales, to take the silver.
In the traditional Manchester fixture, Scotland competed against England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and a formidable GB Junior Team. It was a first taste of international action for many of the team and the results reflect a number of first and second places as well as lifetime bests. The athletes enjoyed the team spirit with one commenting: “It was a lovely atmosphere and there was a real buzz in the stadium”. In total there were five event wins for the Scots, with the Scotland team claiming victory in the 4 x 400m relay and setting a new national record, with Katie Johnson from Prestonpans, one of the relay record-breakers. Johnson also took gold in the Junior 800m race in a time of 2:11.96.
