Senior and Age Group Championships – August 2024

Track and field athletes from U13 to Seniors flocked to the National Championships, held in Grangemouth over two consecutive weekends in August this year. 

Age Group Championships – 10th and 11th August

The 4J Age Group Championships for U13s, U15s and U20s was very competitive, with 1500 event entries from athletes across the whole of Scotland, as well as a few Irish and English visitors.

In the U13 category Tom Ibbs took Silver in the Boys 1500m in a time of 4:42.05 and also came 4th in the High Jump with his best jump of 1.42m.

In the U15 Girls, Madison Taylor earned herself a (wind assisted) personal best in the 100m with her run in 14.43, and she then went on to take 6th place in her Long Jump pool with a new personal best of 4.01m.

In the large field of 300m heats, Heidi Nicholson came 13th with her run in 47.37, and Morven Kenny qualified with a time of 45.13, and then went on to come 7th in the final.

Ava Rose Curtis represented TEL’s U15 girls in the 800m finishing her run in 2:40.80.

And Imogen Turner earned herself a hard-won Bronze in her 1500m race in a time of 5:02.36.

In the U15 Boys, Ben Anderson finished his 100m in 12.26, and then went on to come 10th in the Long Jump with his 4.90m jump.

Frank Orsi did extremely well with two personal bests, coming 7th in his 1.25kg discus event with a throw of 17.41m, and 4th in the Javelin with his new record of 25.74m, as well as completing his 800m run in a time of 2:31.8.

In the U20 Women, Maja Thomson brought home the Silver in her 800m race in a time of 2:21.20, and Erin Hall came 7th in her Long Jump competition with her jump of 4.81m.

The U20 Men, 800m proved to be a very tactical race, with Fraser Lupton finishing in 2:00.97, Jamie Smith coming in at 2:03,05 and Luke Mercer earning himself a personal best of 2:20.88.

In the U20 Mens 1500m Final, Ronnie Brown came 6th with his time of 4:07.73 and Aidan Paige won the Silver with his speedy race of 4:05.92.

Eric Liddell Senior and U17 Age Group Championships – 17th and 18th August

This year is the 131st staging of the Senior Champs and the name this year marks the centenary of Eric Liddell‘s famous gold medal in the 1924 Olympics in Paris.

Event entries and the athlete numbers for the weekend were high again, with 1145 entries, and with 616 athletes, the U17 Champs were especially competitive.

As the only TEL U17 Woman’s representative, Charlotte Little completed her 100m sprint in 14.57.

And in the U17 Men, Fraser Lupton took the Silver in the 800m with his time of 1:59.23.

Thomas Gornall achieved a personal best in his 1500m Steeple Chase and came 5th in his time of 5:05.97.

The 1500m race saw Joe Smith Team finish in 4:22.27 and Elliot Cameron come in at 4:59.29.

The Senior Women, saw Kerry Morris competing in the 100m, finishing in 13.25, and coming 7th in the Long Jump with her jump of 5.12m and then coming 5th, with a personal best of 10.05m in the Triple Jump, which she has only competed in once before.

Laura Buchan was placed 6th in the Long Jump with a personal best jump of 5.41m, and she took the Bronze in the Triple Jump with another personal best of 11.37m.

The Senior Men’s 100m, saw Oliver Little make his competitive debut in the 100m with a personal best performance of 12.56.

And Alister Mackay had a busy weekend, taking home a Silver in the 110m Hurdles in a personal best time of 15.38, finishing 9th in his Long Jump with 6.53m and achieving the Gold in Pole Vault with his personal best height of 4.35m.
